PANDEIRO

The pandeiro is a tambourine used in capoeira, samba, choro, and coco.

Additional copy to add below the existing line: Pandeiro technique is built around four core hand positions — slap, thumb, fingertip, and heel — that let a single player produce bass, mid, and treble tones simultaneously, plus a controlled or open jingle sound depending on how the platinelas (jingles) are muted. That vocabulary is far more developed than most frame drum traditions, and it produced its own lineage of virtuoso players. Marcos Suzano in particular is credited with revolutionizing modern pandeiro technique, expanding it well beyond its traditional samba and choro roots into funk, drum ‘n’ bass, and other contemporary styles.
